"How did the information leak?" Brad demanded, livid. It was late at night that same day, and he, of all people, was not in the clubs or with his friends. Brad was in the T-Vino Wineries offices. To be specific, he was in the office that had been reserved for him but never used. The office was as pristine as could be, and some of the things in there still had a light plastic shrouding them because the owner had never been there.
Brad’s office was on the ground floor, not the underground offices. He preferred the upper ground to the lower levels.
Currey stepped after Brad into his office, but before he was able to formulate an answer, another male and older voice also demanded,
"That is what I want to ask!"
Currey turned to the older man, who had entered the room, and then he shut the door behind the three of them in the spacious office.
After working with Ian for so long, Currey had rubbed off some of Ian’s frosty demeanour. With one look, the man lowered his head in a submission stance,
"Ah yes, assistant Currey and young master Brad, I came as soon as I saw the news. Something is too fishy here. How are the chairman and, most importantly, his pretty wife? Why is she always getting into trouble? S-"
"Carmichaels, which question would you like us to answer?" Currey asked, and Brad rolled his eyes.
"My apologies. It’s just that a lot of things are going on at the same time, making me worried out of my head,"
Currey and Brad nodded, "I agree that it is fishy how this information blew up that much, but the new space is getting messier by the second. Who did the Chairman offend this time?"
Brad and Currey shared a look that spoke volumes, but it was clear that their thoughts were different yet similar on the matter. Brad’s deduction was based solely on the news, but Currey had a more in-depth outlook.
"What of the Little Lady, Shelby? Did you find anything about her yet?" Carmichaels was so worried as if it was his child missing.
Currey shook his head; unlike anything associated with him, a cold glint flashed across his face and disappeared almost as soon.
"Not yet; our people on the ground are still searching."
Currey had a hunch, but he needed time to confirm this. One thing was the only constant thought, ’There was no way that Murray was not able to bring the mistress to safety!’
But Currey still did not know why they had not appeared after all this time, and at that time, more than half a day had passed since the accident. It was pre-supposed that Murry had hurt himself, and that was why there had been no news. However, at the moment, no news was considered good news.
The other more prominent and worrying thing was the fact that Ian had also slipped into a coma. With all the rest out of the game, Currey had a lot on his plate, but he held on strong; after all, not anyone could become Ian’s right-hand man, considering Ian’s unique identity.
"About the leak-" Carmichaels re-asked. Carmichaels was one of the only stakeholders in the company who supported Ian wholeheartedly.
’Be okay, little lady!’ Carmichaels thought. He was also one who doted on Shelby like his own and was not faking his emotions.
"It was too swift and decisive. Whoever is behind this is seeking death!" Brad spat out.
"But the news out there is unfavourable for the little lady.... What is really going on?"
"Carmichaels, you know just as much as I do in the case. That person is in the dark, and we are out here like sitting ducks waiting to be slaughtered,"
"I’ll head to the police station later on to check on the progress of the investigation," Currey added,
"I have a few men that I can lend to the search for the little Lady."
"Thank you, Carmichaels," Brad said sincerely,
Just then, Currey stiffened slightly. It was so quick that none of the two men noticed this,
"I must attend to something-"
"Don’t worry, assistant Currey. I’ll help young Master Brad deal with those old wolves!"
Currey nodded gravely, his mood lightening up a bit for the first time since the incident. Carmichaels was indeed a loyal person. Currey made a mental note of this gesture, and with a small bow to the two people, he stepped out of the room and into a secluded corner.
Even though Currey saw a few older men whom he recognized coming in at night, he did not give them the time of day. That was the task for Brad and Carmichaels to handle. It was funny how things in their interests could get those old men into the offices that late at night.
Currey closed his eyes, and a moment later, he was gone.
Currey appeared soundlessly about five minutes after Ingrid called out to him.
On the contrary, Samantha was puzzled. After that day and the poolside incident from school, Samantha had seen her fair share of this strange stuff around her family, so Currey’s appearance out of thin air into the closed room was not new to her, but that did not mean that she was not startled.
What was even stranger was the fact that the ever-composed Ingrid was distressed, even angry, maybe, which was unusual for her. Initially, Ingrid was always reserved around people, so no one could see much of her, so an angry Ingrid was a different one. However, Ingrid had not yet managed to tell Samantha why.
"Mummy is in danger! H-"
Her statement caught Samantha off guard but not Currey. With both masters indisposed, Currey was swarmed with a lot on his plate; despite this, he had responded immediately and ’heard’ Ingrid’s call in the midst of his small discussion with those two whom he had left behind.
"What makes you say that?" Currey asked, but instead of Ingrid responding, she asked another question,
"What happened to Mummy? Do you have any news?"
Currey had been getting a lot of that news that day, but he did not have the answers to it. He could see that Ingrid was trying to keep up a brave front, but it was not working,
"I don’t have any news yet, but we are doing all we can to find her!"
"What of Murray and Dad?"
At that question, Currey stopped, for he then understood why Ingrid was asking all those questions.
"It’s too early for us to make any conclusions, Ingrid. She will be okay."
"What conclusions? What are you two talking about?"
