We Are Legion (We Are Bob)

Bob Johansson, having sold his company, anticipates a peaceful retirement, but his life is cut short. Waking a century later, he discovers he's a digital consciousness, the property of the state, destined to pilot an interstellar probe seeking habitable planets. Refusal means deactivation; acceptance makes him a target in a race against rival nations. To escape, Bob opts for deep space, but the universe harbors dangerous entities. Years later, Bob and his numerous copies are spreading humanity's reach. However, their mission is complicated by a devastating war, a dying Earth, and hostile probes. They've also encountered an alien species that consumes other life forms. Now a deity to primitives, Bob is humanity's last hope for survival and finding a new home, while also facing the threat of becoming alien food. Despite successful colonization, Bob and his clones face ongoing threats: rival probes, and a powerful, aggressive alien species. Having suffered a previous defeat, they prepare for a final battle for Earth and its colonies. However, internal division among the Bobs complicates matters. Salvation might emerge from an unexpected discovery in deep space, requiring a race against the aliens to deliver it to Sol.
